The Maglev

So as our last day ended we made our way to the airport via the Maglev fast train. We travelled at 300kms per hour and it took about 15 mins to get to the airport. It was a smooth and comfortable ride in the Maglev. It’s a magnetic Levelator so the train has a different track and runs on magnets.

The Zoo

On our last day we made the trip to the zoo with the goal to see the pandas. We took 2 trains to get to the zoo and the trains were very busy as it was a public holiday for the dragon boat festivals. It was also the warmest day with some sun shining through the smog and cloud at times.

When we arrived at the zoo it was great news when we found the train stopped at the zoo so it was a short walk. Inside the zoo we followed maps and signposts to find the pandas.

Winding our way around the zoo we saw pink flamingos, that were actually an orange peachy colour, emus, ostriches, a tiger, pumas, arctic wolves, eagles and the red pandas.

Finally we we found the two pandas. There in the middle of a high fenced area with glass walls for us to see through, the pandas lay on a wooden fought. Snoozing in the heat. It was hard to take a picture of them as there classic markings couldn’t be seen.

Water Town

image image imageAfter our school visit and eating lunch at school we headed off for Water Town.

Water Town is a very old town with many canals like Suzhou has many canals. There was a thunderstorm while we were there with loud thunder and then very heavy rain. Luckily we could stand under verandas and wait in the information centre. Many of us bought another umbrella but at $2 it wasn’t a problem.

We visited another beautiful garden before the storm. Then we walked along the canal and saw the pearl shops. Many farmers (pearl farmers) sell their pearls here. A man showed us where the pearls come from. So watch the video and you can see also.

Many students and teachers bought the pearls. If you paid 100Yuan you could buy an oyster and they would open it. The pearls were scooped out into a bag and you got to have all the pearls. I bought some pearl ear rings.

Kungfu and Paper Cutting

Today we had P.E and paper cutting with our sister school again, but today was way better than yesterday. Today we did Kung fu and paper cutting, in Kung fu we liked it way more than tai chi and we’re all very good at it, and the teacher seemed to know more English than yesterday’s teacher which made it easier and more fun. In paper cutting we made Christmas trees, pumpkins, lanterns, the happy character and we also got to design our own cuts, it was quite easy because we were getting the lesson from the English teacher. There are some photos and videos at the bottom you can see/watch.
ENJOY.

Day 6

Day 6: our sister school.
Today us Epsom girls jumped into a V.I.P mini bus, and headed off to our sister school. We made a lot of friends there, and they loved us. We participated in P.E and art, in P.E we did tai chi, Acacia did NOT like it at all, it had very swift and slow movements. In art we painted a type of different fruit in a basket, we painted with calligraphy brushes and ink. It was harder than it looks but we had some help by some very helpful students. The two ladies showing us around were called Maggie and Wonderful and four grade 6 students, were very helpful and we give them gifts, surprisingly they gave us gifts too, Chinese chess, chopsticks and a page of calligraphy. Every morning they would line up and march onto the soccer oval for an assembly, we were lucky enough to talk to them and introduce ourselves to them. We had a great day (except for the tai chi for Acacia) and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Thanks for reading, we’re having a great time.

Day 3: Chinese gardens

Today we broke into two little groups, and headed off to the Chinese gardens. I was really impressed with the Chinese peaps praying their prays and throwing coins into a tall metal tower, for good luck and a wish. I failed a lot, but it was really funny. The good thing was, that kids were FREE!!!!! It was good to see pictures telling their story’s and what will or what happened. It was very interesting. What a great experience.

Day 3: caligrafi names

Today Layla and I found a guy writing people’s names in special ink. (Caligrafi) I bought two of them, one for me, and one for………….. (You’ll have to find out when we come back) they look AWESOME!!! It was only 20¥ each. So I paid 40¥. The guy asked if we wanted a frame for it, and we asked how much it was. It was an extra 45¥. Of course we didn’t get it, so we’ll have to frame it when we come back to AUSTRALIA!!!
P.S I miss all of my friends and family and promise is to bring back presents for them.
Peace✌
